Lignol Launches US-Based Specialty Chemicals Business Unit and Hires Key Executives

(Canada Newswire English Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Attention Business Editors

VANCOUVER, March 3 /CNW/ - Lignol Energy Corp. ("Lignol") (TSX-V: LEC) today announced the launch of its new Specialty Chemicals Business Unit based out of the Pennsylvania offices of its U.S. subsidiary, Lignol Innovations Inc.

Lignol also announced two key additions to the Specialty Chemicals Business Unit with the hiring of Dr. William Armiger as Vice President Specialty Chemicals and Dr. Humbert DelliColli as Director of Lignin Application Development.

"The optimization of our research and development of large-market applications for biochemical co-products, including our proprietary High-Purity ("HP-L(TM)") Lignin, requires additional specialization and professional expertise," said Ross MacLachlan, President & Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") of Lignol. "We are delighted that we have been able to recruit these talented executives and we are excited to base our specialty chemicals business unit out of our Philadelphia-area office, as the Northeastern region of the U.S. represents a significant hub of the chemical industry."

Dr. Armiger (Ph.D, P.E., Chemical and Biochemical Engineering) has more than 25 years of executive and research experience. Through positions with BioChemTechnology, Arthur D. Little, The Catalyst Group, and Venture Catalysts, Dr. Armiger has led numerous business and technical projects relating to the development and commercial production of chemical, specialty chemical, food, and pharmaceutical products by chemical synthesis, fermentation, cell culture, and enzymatic processes as well as environmental applications of biotechnology. Immediately prior to joining Lignol, he was co-Founder and CEO of NeuroGenomeX.

Dr. DelliColli (Ph.D Chemistry) has more than 30 years of experience in the commercial development and production of lignin and other specialty chemicals. Prior to joining Lignol, Dr. DelliColli held a series of progressively senior positions with MeadWestvaco Corporation ("MeadWestvaco"), the most recent of which was as Business Manager, Agricultural Chemicals, Performance Chemicals Business Group and Business Development Manager, Business Development, Specialty Chemicals Division. MeadWestvaco is the world's leading commercial-scale producer of Kraft lignin derivatives (lignosulphonates).

Dr. Armiger and Dr. DelliColli join Dr. Kendall Pye, Lignol's Chief Scientific Officer, and other members of the engineering group in the Pennsylvania-based operation.

In addition to producing HP-L(TM), Xylose and Furfural, Lignol's technology represents a unique platform for the production of industrial sugars that can be used for the production of cellulosic ethanol, bio-butanol, micro-crystalline cellulose, and other specialty biochemicals.

About Lignol

Lignol (TSX-V: LEC) is a Canadian company undertaking the development of biorefining technologies for the production of fuel-grade ethanol and other biochemical co-products from cellulosic biomass feedstocks. Lignol's modified solvent based pre-treatment technology, originally developed by a former affiliate of General Electric, and then further developed and commercialized for wood-pulp applications by a subsidiary of Repap Enterprises Inc., facilitates the rapid, high-yield conversion of cellulose to ethanol and the production of value-added biochemical co-products, including HP-L(TM). Lignol is executing on its development plan through strategic partnerships to further develop and integrate the core technologies on a commercial scale. Lignol also intends to invest in, or otherwise obtain, equity interests in energy related projects which have synergies with its biorefining technology.
