SkyRecon Announces StormShield 5.0 Unified Endpoint Security

Improved policy-based intrusion prevention, application control, device control and content encryption

SAN JOSE, CA (News - Alert) – February 11, 2008 – SkyRecon Systems, (www.skyrecon.com) the premier provider of integrated, proactive endpoint security solutions, today announced the release of version 5.0 of its unified endpoint security product StormShield™. As a natural complement to existing endpoint anti-virus products, StormShield offers the most system and data protection layers available in a single lightweight agent and single management console. Key to version 5 is the compliance auditing and reporting tools surrounding the dynamic policy management capabilities.

SkyRecon’s StormShield solution protects businesses from the real threats of data leakage, data theft, system misuse, unauthorized access, and zero-day attacks. Not cobbled together through acquisition or disparate technology integrations, StormShield was designed and built from its inception to be a single, lightweight security agent with multiple protection layers working together to protect both the system and the data. The integrated StormShield services include device control, file-based content encryption, application control, host-based intrusion prevention (HIPS) and firewall, wireless security, and network access control (NAC).

Automatically using the appropriate services together at the right time for the right situation, StormShield’s system protection layer combined with the data protection layer ensures that sensitive data stays secure and in the hands of the business – not a hacker or competitor.

“StormShield addresses each critical aspect of endpoint protection, providing protection for both the endpoint system itself and the data that the system hosts and has access to,” said Sean Martin, CISSP, SkyRecon VP of Marketing. “StormShield protects both physical and virtual enterprise endpoints, including mobile laptops that are routinely taken beyond the often-protected physical perimeter of an organization - therefore introducing greater risk of attack, data loss, and misuse.”

StormShield version 5.0 delivers policy-based secure content encryption, which uses a multi-user file/folder encryption model, not a full disk encryption model. This flexible file-based model, along with its multi-key capabilities, enables the wide-scale deployment of endpoint encryption where organizations may have otherwise passed up the opportunity to employ such a valuable technology.

Unlike full disk encryption that can be resource intensive and can either hinder IT operations or bypass IT security policy, StormShield’s file-based encryption supports the realistic day-to-day operations of IT as it relates to the often-competing business and security requirements. With StormShield, organizations can define policies that enable IT to manage the configurations and patches for the endpoints while maintaining the desired protection for the users’ sensitive business data residing on the endpoint without interrupting the end-user.

Additional Version 5 enhancements include:

• Compliance auditing & reporting
• Improved intrusion prevention and buffer overflow protection
• Enhanced removable and integrated device control: IrDA, LPT, COM, PCMCIA
• Increased customer-driven SIEM integration capabilities

With StormShield’s integrated secure content encryption, device control and network access control, organizations can define a single location-aware endpoint-based policy that prevents sensitive data from being removed from their endpoint systems, leaked from unauthorized network locations, and extracted through the use of unauthorized removable storage devices.

As the policy can be dynamically changed based on network location, increased security can be automatically applied as the endpoint leaves the secure perimeter of the internal network.

Pricing & Availability
While each service can be purchased and used separately, SkyRecon StormShield pricing starts at $40 per node depending on number of services activated and $132 per node for all services enabled. Discounts apply to volume purchases. StormShield version 5 is available end of February 2008.
