Airband Brings More WiMAX Bandwidth To Houston(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Airband Communications, a fixed-wireless company for businesses in the United States, announced expanded coverage and capacity of its high-bandwidth solutions in Houston. As part of its national expansion strategy, the company has increased its market reach and service area in the Houston market by 50 percent. The expansion also includes a doubling of Airband's network capacity driven by local customer demands for higher bandwidth services. "Through this expansion, we are able to serve a greater number of businesses in Houston and offer our regional and national account clients more options in this market," said Layne Levine, president of sales and marketing for Airband. "We're delighted to further invest in Houston and give local businesses a better choice for last-mile access, one with unprecedented scalability and speed to install. Plus, we support our customers with the most responsive service team in the industry." Airband owns and operates a fixed-wireless network based on WiMAX technology. The company focuses solely on businesses, delivering Voice over IP (VoIP) and broadband data services - including dedicated bandwidth up to GigE speeds. Airband's network bypasses the traditional wireline infrastructure, so customers benefit from faster installations, rapid bandwidth upgrades and more accessible customer care. Airband currently serves more than 3,500 customers nationwide. "The flexibility of Airband's services was the primary reason we selected them as our provider. Their 'burstable' bandwidth rates mean that I only pay for the bandwidth that I need when I actually need it," said David Broeckelmann, president of Strategic Network Consulting, L.P. (SNC). "This aspect is especially helpful to us because as an outsourced IT provider, we often require a higher bandwidth to transfer off-site data for clients as part of our managed services offering." Based in Bellaire, Texas, SNC has provided Information Technology (IT) services to all types of businesses since 1991. As a provider, SNC specializes in the support, management and strategic guidance for PC, Server, Network and IT Management. The company uses Airband's fixed wireless broadband for data services as well as VoIP. Airband first entered Houston in 2001, making it one of the company's largest and most established markets. As part of the Houston expansion, Airband has turned up new base stations around Northwest Freeway, Arena Towers, West Chase and Sugarland. Each base station provides coverage for a three- to five-mile radius area. In addition, Airband upgraded its existing network infrastructure to further broaden its service coverage and market reach.
