Sun Accepts Synchronica Technology(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Synchronica, a mobile synchronisation and device management company, announced that it has received acceptance from Sun Microsystems for the software components of its Mobile Gateway product agreed in the contract signed in August. In a release, Synchronica noted that it delivered the software components to Sun on schedule in November 2007. Having accepted the software, Sun will pay, in three equal installments in February, July and October 2008, an initial licence fee of US $1.8m for the first major version of the software and where applicable further licence fees on a per user per annum basis. Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica said: "We are delighted to have received Sun's acceptance of all the licensed components of Mobile Gateway. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our developers that we fulfilled our initial contractual obligations to Sun and delivered the first major version of our software to them on time within the agreed framework. We now look forward to a long and productive relationship with Sun as we work together even more closely in the future." Under the terms of the agreement concluded in August, Sun will licence Synchronica Mobile Gateway's core SyncML technology to enable over-the-air synchronisation of the Sun Java Communications Suite with any mobile device supporting the industry standard. SyncML is the dominant standard incorporated into more than 1.5 billion devices from all leading manufacturers including Nokia, SonyEricsson and Motorola. The Sun Java Communications Suite occupies a strong niche in the communication and collaboration market, providing services for major global enterprises and mobile operators, and is reported to power more than 240 million mailboxes worldwide.
