RapidMind Announces Multi-core Development Platform Support for Mac OS X

WATERLOO, Ontario --(Business Wire)-- RapidMind Inc. today announced that its flagship product, the RapidMind Multi-core Development Platform, now supports the Mac platform. RapidMind's software solution allows companies to take advantage of the unparalleled performance gains offered by the families of Intel(R) Xeon CPUs.

Today, RapidMind is leveraged in applications such as three-dimensional visualization, image processing, video editing, and broadcast-quality encoding. The tremendous computational and graphics power contained in the new Intel Xeon-based Macs offers the digital media industry unparalleled performance. RapidMind's Multi-core Development Platform has been shown to achieve a 10x performance improvement on third-party Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) effects, providing desktop publishing and photo and video editing software vendors with a significant competitive advantage. RapidMind's support for Mac OS acknowledges Apple's leadership position in these markets, and ensures Mac users will continue to experience gains in the revolutionary applications that they use to share photos, create movies, or produce broadcast video.

As processor vendors continue to add cores to boost performance, application developers are experiencing significant challenges due to the complexity involved in parallelizing across multiple cores. Rather than launching into complex and time-consuming multi-threading projects, over a thousand software developers are using RapidMind to realize the performance benefits of new multi-core processors.

"Mac users are accustomed to applications that simply work and offer unprecedented performance," said Ray DePaul, president and CEO of RapidMind. "RapidMind's support for the Mac ensures software organizations will continue to provide their customers with eye-popping applications they expect."

RapidMind will demonstrate the RapidMind platform at Macworld Expo, booth 4354 in the Moscone West Hall, January 15-18 in San Francisco.
