SMIC Plans 45nm Wafer Trial Production(SinoCast China Business Daily News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) SHANGHAI, December 12, SinoCast -- Shanghai-based Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC, NYSE: SMI, and SEHK: 0981.HK) announced the operation of its plant with a 12-inch wafer manufacturing line in Shanghai after the successful trial operation on December 10, 2007. The company plans trial production of 45-nanometer wafers at the end of 2008, based on the introduction of an immersion lithography apparatus to the manufacturing line., SIMC can make use of the equipment to massively produce advanced wafers, according to Richard Chang, president and chief executive officer of SMIC. The 12-inch wafer manufacturing line, which can solely produce 45-nanometer wafers in Mainland China, was constructed in October 2005 and was put into operation in July 2007.
