pbxnsip Announces Support for IPv6

PRESS RELEASE

pbxnsip (News - Alert) Announces Support for IPv6
Will Help with the Pending Shortage of IP Addresses

North Andover, MA – December 3, 2007 – pbxnsip Inc., a leader in SIP-based IP-PBX software for both Microsoft Windows and Linux environments, today announced the company supports IPv6 in its latest release of software V2.1. The company recognizes that the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses is inevitable and IPv6 support is needed now from all vendors of IP products. With the proliferation of IP and SIP-enabled cell phones, the need for greater IP address space is becoming paramount. Last May, the Board of Trustees of American Registry for Internet Numbers (News - Alert) (ARIN) announced the urgency of the IP address situation in a statement (http://www.arin.net/announcements/20070521.html).

“The support of IPv6 is now a core component of the pbxnsip product. The PBX (News - Alert) supports both IPv4 and IPv6 in parallel, running on several IP addresses and several ports – for SIP and also for other protocols like HTTP, DNS, TFTP and SNMP”, said Kevin Moroz, COO of pbxnsip, Inc. “The PBX detects when IPv6 is set up on the system and automatically routes the requests to the right destination. Devices may register using IPv4 or IPv6; the PBX will translate traffic between the IPv4 and the IPv6 protocol”.

Marc Blanchet, President of Viagénie, author of the book “Migrating to IPv6” and co-developer of the IPv6 version of Asterisk (News - Alert), adds: “Putting the IPv6 support into the release version of the software and not just an experimental branch was a smart move for pbxnsip. It is now very easy to get started with SIP and IPv6. I expect that soon vendors for IP phones, PSTN gateways and other SIP-based products will interoperate with the PBX and customers can start picking the voice infrastructure components that support seamless IPv6 integration with the pbxnsip PBX.”

A free trial of the pbxnsip software is available on their website (http://pbxnsip.com/software). Special programs are available for interoperability partners.
