Red Condor's New Vx Technology(TM) Fights the ''Volume Pressure'' of Malicious Email Campaigns

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Red Condor has introduced Vx Technology(TM), the industry's first email security that integrates a local network appliance with hosted service. By combining the spam-filtering capability of Red Condor's Message Assurance Gateway (MAG) network appliances with the company's nationwide network of data centers, resilient resources are available to prevent spam attacks from overwhelming individual servers.

"This answers a critical need for companies that are adopting spam filtering appliances to lower their per-mailbox cost of email security," said Ron Longo, President and CEO of Red Condor. "With more than 90 percent of all email now consisting of unwanted and malicious messages, this traffic is placing an enormous and unplanned strain on customers' CPU resources and hard drive space. By integrating our network appliances with our hosted service, we are able to offload that pressure during overwhelming attacks.

"The cost savings provided by Red Condor's Vx Technology can be dramatic," Longo added. "Because its resiliency provides scalable protection, network owners can avoid buying multiple network appliances to address the volume of unwanted email traffic. With this type of resiliency, a vast network of computing resources can be focused on a problem when an attack strikes, then redeployed after the threat passes. It's like getting the power of a spam-fighting supercomputer inside a single box when you buy one of our managed appliances."

"Red Condor's Vx Technology has allowed us to eliminate 12 email servers," said Nate Bennett, systems administrator for Net Nitco, a northwest Indiana Internet Service Provider (ISP) that supports thousands of residential and business email subscribers. "Before switching to Red Condor earlier this year, we did all spam filtering in-house. That required six email servers dedicated to collecting email and another six to filter spam and forward legitimate email to subscribers, plus a POP3 mail cluster that included two Dell 6650 PowerEdge servers. Now, we use the Red Condor MAG 4000 Message Assurance Gateway and the two Dell PowerEdge servers. In conjunction with that, we can offload email to Red Condor's data centers in the event of a hardware malfunction or significant spam campaign. Any time you can remove that many servers, you save a significant amount of time and money by reducing overall administration, maintenance and power requirements."

Longo said that in addition to network load sharing, Vx Technology allows the customer's local network appliance to completely and automatically fail-over to Red Condor's hosted service should it go down entirely because of overwhelming attacks, power failure or other network issues.

From a user perspective, Red Condor's Vx Technology addresses latency issues that can occur in networks under attack from malicious email campaigns. Because of the extraordinary computing capacity needed to scan email traffic during these attacks, the ability to offload email filtering to Red Condor's hosted service prevents delay in the delivery of legitimate email.

Red Condor's network appliances also provide "zero touch" capabilities, meaning the IT manager doesn't need to adjust the device to provide email security.

Red Condor's Vx Technology is backed up by the company's multiple data centers and its 24x7 customer care center staffed by dedicated spam fighting email experts.
