NTT America Operates World's Largest IPv6 Network

NEW YORK, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- NTT America, a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, today announced the company will share knowledge and expertise gained from operating the world's largest commercial IPv6 network with attendees of the 7th IEEE International Conference on Enterprise Networking and Services (EntNet) on Friday, November 30th in Washington, D.C. NTT Communications Group has fully upgraded its global IPv6 backbone to run dual stack - both IPv4 and IPv6.

"The new Internet Protocol, IPv6, significantly improves the function and commercial use of the Internet in terms of scalability, security, mobility and network management," said Kazuhiro Gomi, Vice President of the Global IP Network for NTT America. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to discuss our extensive experience with IPv6 at EntNet 2007. No other provider has a longer history in providing commercial IPv6 than NTT Communications Group."

The location of the conference in Washington D.C. provides an important opportunity to explore several areas of communications related to the U.S. government and military. In 2005, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) mandated that all federal agencies enable their core networks for IPv6 by June 2008. NTT America offers IPv6 commercial off the shelf (COTS) transit services on the GSA Schedule 70. The company's award winning IPv6 transit service is available in native, tunneled or dual-stack modes, and may be procured using GSA Contract No. GS-35F-0322T.

Director of Product Engineering for NTT America, Cody Christman, will present in the EntNet closing plenary on the topic, "Migrating the Global Enterprise to IPv6," Friday, November 30th at 10:00 a.m. ET. Fred Wettling of Bechtel Corporation, David Rubal of Cisco, and Junaid Islam of Piano Networks will join Mr. Christman for the plenary panel, which will be moderated by Latif Ladid, president of the IPv6 FORUM and chair of the European IPv6 Task Force. The session will address the technical and business issues at stake when designing an IPv6 strategy for a large ISP, for a corporate enterprise and for a subject matter expert (SME).

NTT Group has been directly involved with the development and deployment of IPv6 technology since 1996. With the launch of IPv6 transit services in 2001 and the first IPv6 managed firewall solution in 2005 provided by NTT America, NTT Communications Group established itself as the global leader in commercial IPv6 managed services solutions. Additionally, the World Communication Awards recognized NTT Communications as having the Best Technology Foresight for its work in the field of IPv6 in 2002 and awarded Best New Service for its IPv6/IPv4 dual service in 2004.
