Esmertec joins Open Handset Alliance(DMeurope Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Zurich-based Esmertec, a provider of software platforms, applications and services to communications device manufacturers and mobile telecom operators, has announced its membership and participation in the Open Handset Alliance. The Alliance, a global organisation initiated by 34 mobile industry leaders, is a step towards opening new horizons in the mobile space. The alliance has developed Android - a complete, open and free mobile platform to - offer consumers better mobile experiences. To support the success of the platform, Esmertec will offer a range of services around these OMA applications. Beyond Open Source of Android, Esmertec's Jbed Java Virtual Machine (JVM) platform can be made commercially available per customer request for the Alliance s mobile platform.
