Alcatel-Lucent and IBM Expand Unified Communications Solution

PARIS and BOSTON, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VON Conference -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the availability of a fully integrated audio conferencing solution for IBM Lotus Sametime customers. Developed using open IBM Lotus Sametime unified communication and collaboration (UC2(TM)) APIs, OmniTouch My Teamwork for IBM Lotus Sametime provides workers with click-to-conference capability from Lotus Sametime and IBM Lotus Notes and audio conference scheduling and management from Lotus Sametime Web conferencing.

OmniTouch My Teamwork for IBM Lotus Sametime delivers several key benefits. A measurable and quick return on investment with reduced conferencing costs by eliminating the need for third-party audio conferencing services; ease of deployment for IT staff -- no additional client to download and its ability to work with existing telephone systems or softswitches; and on-demand, multiparty audio conferencing for Lotus Sametime users to foster innovation and productivity.

The comprehensive feature set includes multiparty "click-to-conference," PSTN quality dial-in "meet-me" conferencing, audio conference scheduling, conference call control, active talker indication, and call recording-unique to the Alcatel-Lucent integration. All features are tightly embedded within the familiar Lotus Sametime unified communications and collaboration client for ease of use enabling end users to be up and running from day one.

With this new development, the two companies expand their relationship and shared commitment to an open unified communications platform by offering a flexible, standards-based solution that is network agnostic and extensible, freeing businesses from the costly hardware-centric and proprietary approaches of other vendors. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent offers advanced telephony services with click-to-call for Lotus Sametime and Lotus Notes customers.

"Our software-based conference bridge offers significant savings for CIOs on many levels, without sacrificing features, capacity, or performance," said Tom Burns, vice president, enterprise activities at Alcatel-Lucent. "As a leader in enterprise communications we have demonstrated success in developing and bringing to market innovative, low-cost solutions that free our customers from expensive, inflexible third-party services or the proprietary hardware- based constraints of competitive alternatives."

"We are excited to welcome Alcatel-Lucent to our growing community of unified communications and collaboration Business Partners," said Bruce Morse, vice president, unified communications and collaboration products IBM Lotus. "IBM's UC2 strategy is designed to make it easier for people to find, reach and collaborate through a unified communications experience using an open and extensible software platform. The integration of OmniTouch My Teamwork with Lotus Sametime software is further proof that businesses can benefit from industry-leading technology without sacrificing choice and flexibility in their IT decisions."

OmniTouch My Teamwork for IBM Lotus Sametime integrates with Lotus Sametime 7.5 and above. The solution will be on display at the Alcatel-Lucent booth #1443 at Fall VON in Boston October 30-31, 2007.
