Current TV and FADER Films Exclusively Present ``A Day of Dialogue: The Future of Non-Fiction Film'' Symposium, Bringing Together Next Generation Filmmakers
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- Current TV, the world's peer-to-peer news and information network, and FADER Films, the film production arm of FADER magazine, today announced "A Day of Dialogue: The Future of Non-Fiction Film," a symposium for emerging filmmakers and mavericks with an interest in socially relevant non-fiction stories. Taking place on November 6, 2007, at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City, A Day of Dialogue will provide a forum for attendees to come together to network, establish relationships with film industry professionals and get insight from prolific directors.
Among the established filmmakers and industry insiders attending are Heidi Ewing & Rachel Grady (Oscar(R)-nominees for Jesus Camp), Albert Maysles (Oscar(R)-nominated Director, Gimme Shelter, Grey Gardens), Morgan Spurlock (Oscar(R)-nominated Director, Supersize Me), Alex Gibney (Oscar(R)-nominated Director, Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room), Marc Levin (Emmy(R)-Award Winning Director, Mr. Untouchable), John Sloss (Cinetic), Eamonn Bowles (President, Magnolia Pictures) and Bingham Ray (Founder of October Films). Former Vice President and Co-Founder of Current, Al Gore, will give the event's keynote speech.
"We are extremely proud of this initiative and our ability to provide the next generation of filmmakers with a platform from which they can learn and grow," said Joel Hyatt, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Current. "Current is proud that we have been the only home on television for aspiring filmmakers with a fresh point of view."
A Day of Dialogue will commence with Inside the Directors Studio, an hour-long discussion about the process and challenges of documentary filmmaking. Following the discussion, filmmakers will break into small groups, where they will have the opportunity to speak with industry professionals such as sales agents, film festival programmers and distribution executives. Mr. Gore will then present his keynote speech. The day will conclude with pitch sessions, where each filmmaker will have the opportunity to showcase their ideas to a creative executive from Current TV.
The event will feature a screening of selected shorts and excerpts from documentaries culled from Current TV's programming, as well as filmmakers attending the conference. Immediately following the screening, the reception, sponsored by The FADER, begins in celebration of all the filmmakers and mentors in attendance.
"FADER Films was established to work with independent and emerging artists," said FADER Film co-founder Rob Stone. "This event is a great way for young filmmakers to learn from the best in the business and dialogue with each other, and we're proud to be a part of it."
Filmmakers and event organizers Paola Mendoza and Michael Skolnik added: "As filmmakers, one can get very isolated in one's own work. With an event like this, Current and FADER Films are encouraging us to come together and build a stronger community of young filmmakers so we can collaborate on ideas and share experiences. Furthermore, to be able to learn from some of the leaders in the field, in a small setting, is a rare opportunity and one we cherish."
