Government Leaders Gather for NIC's Fifth Annual eGovernment Leadership Summit

PORTLAND, Ore. --(Business Wire)-- The nation's largest eGovernment-focused gathering of leaders from the public and private sectors kicked off yesterday as the eGovernment Leadership Summit began three days of intensive discussions about the future of electronic government.

Now in its fifth year, the eGovernment Leadership Summit has grown from a small event in New York City five years ago into the premier forum for digital government leaders. This year's conference takes place in Portland, Ore., and features decisionmakers from 21 states. The event is hosted by eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV), which manages official Web sites and online services for 20 states and hundreds of local governments.

This year's agenda features panel discussions, group workshops, and keynote presentations that focus on the technical, political, economic and sociological challenges facing today's state and local government leaders. Featured topics include the role of eGovernment in managing risk, promoting economic development, maintaining secure operations, promoting the online channel, and delivering must-have value-added eServices.

A diverse group of keynote speakers is also scheduled to present at the eGovernment Leadership Summit, including Web 2.0 expert Tara Hunt from Citizen Agency, Governing magazine editor and publisher Peter Harkness, Center for Digital Government and Education executive director Cathilea Robinett and Executive Director Doug Robinson of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (Nascio).

"We look forward to this event each year because NIC's government partners and employees bring great ideas to the table that will be acted on in the future," said Harry Herington, president of NIC. "The eGovernment Leadership Summit continues to generate new solutions that shape what's coming next in digital government. I am very excited about the activities and conversations that will take place during the next few days in Portland."
