UTSTARCOM: RIDING ON BROADBAND (accounts for 50-60% of the total market)


(India Business Insight Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) UTStarcom, an IP-based networking and telecom solutions provider of the US, which entered the India's broadband service in 2001, accounts for 50-60 percent of the total market.

Its clientele base includes Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices (TTSL) and Reliance Communications (RCom).

UTStarcom has completed DSL modem-based projects of 4,50,000 lines for BSNL and 2,50,000 lines for MTNL. UTStarcom accounts for about 75 percent each of RCom's and TTSL's, and 33 percent of Bharti Airtel's DSL modem business. UTStarcom plans to adopt both fibre and wireless media to increase broadband service and promote broadband applications.
