Tullahoma Utilities Board Chooses Wave7 Optics for 'Triple Play' FTTP Network(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Wave7 Optics, a supplier of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband network equipment for residential and business services, announced at the FTTH Council Conference and Expo that Tullahoma (Tennessee) Utilities Board (TUB) has selected the Wave7 Optics' Trident7 Universal Access Platform for a municipal FTTP network that will begin service to homes, businesses and schools in late 3Q 2008. TUB will begin construction of this network - a $16.9M project that will cover the entire city limits -- later this year and expects to complete the project in 2010. Owned and operated by TUB, the network will offer a complete triple play of voice, very high-speed data (20+ Mbps) and a 200-channel IPTV offering that will include many VOD (video on demand) options, including several local VOD options. Tullahoma is a city of approximately 20,000 located in between Chattanooga and Nashville. TUB has selected the Trident7 Universal Access Platform, deployed in its GPON FTTP configuration. The Trident7 is the industry's only FTTP platform capable of delivering standards-based ITU G.984 GPON, IEEE 802.3 GE-PON, and IEEE 802.3 Point-to-Point technologies from a common platform. TUB will deploy Trident7 "OLTs" (optical line terminals) in a single central office facility, where they are integrating them with phone switching equipment, routers from Cisco, and middleware from Minerva. "We embarked upon this project because we saw the community falling behind in broadband infrastructure, especially when it comes to high-speed data services," said Brian Skelton, General Manager, TUB. "We're also doing it in the spirit of increased choice and competition for our residents and business owners. Having this type of infrastructure in place also will help us compete with other regions for new businesses and, as such, will serve as a spur for economic development." "We have been fortunate to enjoy success with many municipal customers around the world and are thrilled to see the Trident7 make headway in this important market sector," said Emmanuel Vella, CMO of Wave7 Optics. "The standards flexibility of the Trident7 platform will enable us to grow significantly in this area." Wave7 Optics is exhibiting the complete Trident7 product line at the 2007 FTTH Council Conference & Expo at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, September 30 - October 4, in Booth 213. In addition, Wave7 Optics' CTO, Jim Farmer, is giving a presentation, "Everything You Need to Know about Video," on Tuesday, October 2nd 10:15 - 11 AM, in Salon V. The Tullahoma Utilities Board is a municipal public utility of the city of Tullahoma, Tennessee, and provides electricity, water and wastewater services to the residents of Tullahoma and parts of the surrounding area. A distributor of TVA power, with rates among the lowest in the country, TUB currently serves nearly 10,300 electric customers, 9,300 water customers and 7,200 sewer customers.
