Florida Virtual School Receives $314,000 AT&T Grant to Study Best Practices for Online Learning
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Florida Virtual School (FLVS), a nationally recognized e-Learning model for developing and providing virtual K - 12 education solutions to students, will use a $314,000 grant to conduct a two-year project to gather best practices and methodologies for developing and delivering high-quality online learning for students. The grant, provided by the AT&T Foundation, the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. , will help FLVS support the development of new and expanded online learning opportunities.
"In every aspect of their lives, today's students are using new technologies that weren't available just a little while ago," said Marshall Criser III, president, AT&T Florida. "AT&T's goal in partnering with FLVS is to give educators the assistance they need to successfully reach students by using the most advanced communications available. We believe that when teachers are properly equipped with the right tools, students benefit."
With the support of AT&T, FLVS will research best practices, methodologies and strategies that are being used by virtual learning educators to support students who are actively participating in online learning programs. In addition, the research project will also help identify support needs for continued growth of the online learning marketplace.
"As educators, we have to make sure that students are better prepared for an ever-changing work environment," said Julie Young, president, FLVS. "It starts by giving them a well-rounded education with which they can build the skills and abilities to ubiquitously use technology. Our work with the AT&T Foundation will allow us to support education through gaining additional knowledge about today's ever-changing learning environment so that we can work on enhancing the learning opportunities of students both here in the state of Florida and across the U.S."
