Florida mall on schedule for spring opening

(Ocala Star-Banner (FL) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Sep. 13--OCALA, Fla. -- Construction of the open-air Market Square at Heath Brook mall is still on schedule for a spring opening.

"We're still looking at a soft opening at the end of February," said Lorrie Keener, a spokeswoman for United American Realty, the project's developer.

The mall was originally scheduled to open next month, but United American Realty announced in May that the opening had been pushed back to February.

Keener also announced an additional restaurant for the mall, American Pie Pizza Company.

Based in Winter Garden, American Pie Pizza is a Central Florida chain. The company's Web site lists 11 locations, most of them in the greater Orlando area. Additionally, one unit is on the Atlantic Coast in Palm Bay while another is in Pinellas Park on Florida's Gulf Coast. As many as 30 more are planned, according to the Web site.

The chain dates to 2002 with its first stores opening in Clermont and Winter Garden. American Pie serves New York-style thin crust pizza, flat breads and something called a "goop dog" -- described as a "sloppy Joe hybrid" barbecue sandwich on a hot dog bun.

Announced stores for Market Street include Dillard's, Talbots, Barnes and Noble, Dick's Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shop, Solstice Sunglass Boutique and Old Navy.

Keener declined to specify any stores other than those announced, but said another announcement would be coming in two to three weeks.

Additional unconfirmed prospective retailers and restaurants listed on building plans submitted to the city in January include Macaroni Grill, Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, World Market, Orvis and Ann Taylor Loft, among others.

Office space will account for 70,000 square feet of the 630,000 square foot mall complex. United American has started leasing the office space, but tenants' names are not yet available, Keener said Wednesday.
