AIRTEL & NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS INK $900-MILLION DEAL (Bharti Airtel intends to expand its global system for mobile communication network in 8 circles and next generation networking in 2 years)


(India Business Insight Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Bharti Airtel has signed a multi-platform network deal worth $900 million with Nokia Siemens (NS) to expand its business.

It proposes to expand its mobile, fixed line and intelligent network platforms. Airtel plans to expand its global system for mobile communication (GSM) network in 8 circles and next generation networking (NGN) over 2 years.

It also plans to expand its international calling card pre-paid service in 3 years. NS will be the leading supplier of fixed line equipment to Airtel.

The expansion of the national long distance (NLD) and international long distance (ILD) telephony platforms will record installation of 1.8 million NGN ports helping Airtel to quadruple its capacity and to increase its network traffic and related network traffic and revenues.
