Hatteras Networks CTO Re-Elected to Metro Ethernet Forum Board of Directors for Third Term

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. --(Business Wire)-- Hatteras Networks, the Mid-Band Ethernet(TM) market, technology and services leader, today announced that the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) has re-elected Matthew Squire, PhD and the CTO of Hatteras Networks, to its board of directors. This is Dr. Squire's third term on the board of directors.

"It is a pleasure to once again be working with Matt as an active member of the MEF Board," said Michael Tighe, chairman of the board for the MEF. "Matt's expertise with service providers around the globe has given him the technical knowledge and leadership skills that have been instrumental in advancing the adoption of Carrier Ethernet and the mission of the MEF."

As in the past, Dr. Squire will continue to be actively involved in the industry's leading standards-setting bodies, providing key leadership within the MEF, IEEE, IETF, ITU and ATIS NIPP standards groups.

"This year, the MEF will focus on expanding the applications and footprint for Carrier Ethernet. The MEF remains committed to accelerating customer migration to Ethernet services by simplifying the deployment and interoperability of Ethernet networks and services, and by increasing Ethernet's reach with technologies such as cable and Ethernet over copper. The MEF will also play a much larger role in solving traditional infrastructure problems, especially those related to DSLAM and mobile wireless backhaul," said Squire. "I look forward to continuing my work as part of the MEF's board of directors and spearheading the ongoing advancement of Carrier Ethernet."

Dr. Squire has been an active member of the MEF since its inception, providing technical leadership by serving as editor of the group's operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) focus, including the most recent Service OAM Implementation Agreement. Hatteras Networks has played a leadership role in each of the MEF's interoperability demonstrations and has certified compliance with MEF 9 and MEF 14 service specifications.

About Hatteras Networks

Hatteras Networks is redefining the way carriers think about Ethernet services. Hatteras Networks' Ethernet service edge solutions are leading Service Providers worldwide to a $15 billion expansion of the Metro Ethernet market, which had previously been limited to the fiber footprint. Historically, T1s and E1s have been the fundamental building block for voice and data business services. Now, Service Providers can cost-effectively offer up to 45 Mbps Mid-Band Ethernet services over existing copper facilities, enabling businesses to migrate from legacy Frame Relay, ATM and T1/E1 connections to transparent Ethernet services for voice and data business connectivity, infrastructure backhaul and mobile wireless backhaul solutions.

Already deployed on five continents, Hatteras Networks solutions are enabling a market expansion for carriers that is as significant for business services as "triple play" is for residential. For more information, visit www.hatterasnetworks.com.
