Eminem lawsuit raps Apple

(UPI Entertainment News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) The music publisher of Detroit rapper Eminem has sued Apple, charging the computer giant allowed unauthorized downloads of the rapper's songs.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit, publisher Eight Mile Style, located in Ferndale, and Eminem's copyright manager, Martin Affiliated, said Apple allowed unauthorized downloads of Eminem's songs onto iPods, the Detroit News reported Tuesday.

Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated allege that although Apple pays a portion of revenues it collects from Eminem downloads to Universal Music Group, Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated never authorized Universal to allow the downloads.

Eight Mile and Martin have demanded that Apple cease and desist its reproduction and distribution and Apple has refused, said the complaint filed Monday.

The multimillion-dollar lawsuit is the latest move by Eminem's publisher to protect the rights to his music.

Eight Mile Style and Martin sued Apple in 2004 over its use of Lose Yourself in a TV commercial for Apple's iTunes music store. That case was settled out of court.
