John O'Hara Named EVP, Engineering By Cedar Point Communications

DERRY, N.H., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point Communications, a leader in integrated VoIP switching technologies for the service provider and enterprise industries, announced today that it has named John O'Hara, a 20-year engineering veteran, as Executive Vice President, Engineering.

O'Hara, whose background has involved senior level engineering roles at both startups and established companies, will be responsible for driving the development of increased technological capabilities for Cedar Point's SAFARI C(3) Multimedia Switching System within current and future markets.

"In a rapidly-changing communications environment, it is important that we maintain our leadership role by increasing the ability of SAFARI C(3) to meet future needs of cable, telecommunications and enterprise network operators," said Andy Paff, president and CEO of Cedar Point Communications. "In concert with our customers, John O'Hara will work with our engineering staff to translate the needs of customers and prospects in current and future markets into higher-density, feature-rich versions of SAFARI."

Most recently a consultant tasked with defining both product and engineering strategy for sentitO Networks, O'Hara previously had served as vice president of engineering of Colubris Networks, a WLAN public access equipment company. With Colubris, O'Hara led the research and development teams that developed a new, massively scalable WLAN switch architecture.

Prior to his tenure with Colubris, O'Hara co-founded and led the engineering organizations for two highly-successful startups. With WaveSmith Networks, a maker of core service provider infrastructure technology that was acquired by Ciena, O'Hara was instrumental in establishing partnerships with Verizon Communications, SBC Communications and CenturyTel, Inc., and in helping the firm to secure more than $80 million in venture funding. He played a similarly significant role in the success of New Oak Communications, a pioneer of high-capacity remote access virtual private network devices that was acquired by Nortel Networks. O'Hara also has held senior engineering positions at FTP Software, DEC, and Wang Labs.
