Brix Networks Unveils Live IPTV Service Monitoring Solution
CHELMSFORD, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Brix Networks, a global provider of converged service assurance solutions, today announced new capabilities for its BrixVision(TM) Internet Protocol television (IPTV) portfolio that allow service providers and cable companies offering next-generation video services to continuously monitor live broadcast video streams and safeguard content quality in real time.
BrixVision Live Monitoring provides 24x7, in-network visibility into service quality by monitoring and analyzing live video streams at critical service demarcation points (demarcs) within the delivery network, such as head ends, regional hubs, and local video serving offices.
Strategically deployed Brix System measurement sources monitor video streams for user-impacting impairments in the video content and those introduced by the network during transmission to the set-top box (STB), allowing providers to effectively segment their networks and pinpoint where problems are occurring.
Unlike lab or pre-deployment tools, BrixVision Live Monitoring is designed for large-scale, live IPTV deployments. Based on the BrixWorx(TM) centralized correlation and analysis software engine, BrixVision Live Monitoring provides crucial operational features, including carrier-class scalability, remote management, centralized configuration, data storage, and advanced analytics and reporting.
Unique, Application-specific Views
BrixVision provides different views of IPTV performance to support a variety of applications, including operational monitoring, service level agreement (SLA) compliance, installation verification, troubleshooting, and customer care.
The real-time BrixVision dashboard quickly alerts network operations and staff to degradations and outages, and reports current video quality and service performance indicators along with the number of programs and locations impacted. When troubleshooting a problem that has previously occurred, the dashboard can also optionally be set to provide a historical, "point-in-time" view for any period.
BrixVision Live Monitoring's unique and highly scalable at-a-glance system maps display the current status for all locations and programs across the entire network, and allow network operators to identify failing programs and locations to quickly assess how widespread a problem is. To further isolate problem areas, providers can visually highlight all of the upstream and downstream locations from which the site receives or distributes content.
Additionally, by using BrixVision's custom reporting capabilities, providers can graphically assess the performance of individual programs and locations by comparing more than 40 collected quality metrics.
"The overall success of an IPTV service depends on the quality of the video content, the quality of the video stream as it is delivered by the transport networks, and users' interactive experiences," said Bob Larribeau, co-founder and principal analyst at TelecomView, a telecommunications industry analysis firm. "BrixVision Live Monitoring addresses these issues by analyzing monitored video streams to collect network key performance indicators and key quality indicators and present them to the network operator in a meaningful way."
Leveraging the open architecture of BrixWorx, network operators can also seamlessly integrate BrixVision Live Monitoring with a variety of third-party provisioning, fault management, and trouble-ticketing systems to improve operational efficiencies, validate performance and quality levels, and continually ensure the overall success of an IPTV service.
Availability and Pricing
BrixVision Live IPTV Monitoring is available immediately, and pricing varies based on the scope and scale of a network operator's deployment.
