Whaleback Systems Announces Technology Program for Cable Ops

Media Contact: Melissa A. Hicks, Mosaic Marketing, 877.238.4045

ORLANDO, FLA., JUNE 20, 2007— Today Whaleback Systems unveiled a program for its award-winning VoIP business telephone solution to enable cable operators to immediately capitalize on the highly profitable small and midsized business (SMB) market. The program features the company’s scalable, end-to-end CrystalBlue Voice Service™ which boasts an impressive 50-point bundle of features and technological superiority over telephone companies and other VoIP providers’ business offerings.

“Whaleback Systems has created a system, architecture and process for quick and easy deployment of advanced business telephony service via MSOs’ existing residential infrastructure. We provide cable operators with a superior product offering, a go-to-market business strategy and everything they need to capture market share and immediately realize a high ROI, and we do this without the cable operator having any major capital expenditure.” said Mark Galvin, co-founder, president and CEO of Whaleback Systems.

Advanced Service Architecture Optimizes Quality of Service
Whaleback Systems leveraged advanced engineering and technological innovations to streamline the deployment and delivery of IP telephony service to businesses. Unlike IP-Centrex and alternative VoIP systems, Whaleback Systems’ has created a customer premise-based component with advanced software to simplify system management, enhance call quality and optimize network reliability and performance.

“Our solution is far superior to the duct-taped eMTAs and network-based feature servers that represent earlier strategies to field a solution” remarked Galvin, “Our approach brings the power of an enterprise-class PBX to the SMB without the cost or complexity and that creates a huge market opportunity for cable operators. The architecture also eliminates the need for costly network infrastructure upgrades which enables the MSOs to quickly achieve positive cash flow.”

Even though Whaleback’s service architecture has been operationally proven over fiber, G-PON, xDSL and over-the-air RF access technologies, from day one the system was designed to best leverage existing HFC networks using technologies based on DOCSIS® and the PacketCable™ specification.

Whaleback Systems’ solution also features OrcaVision™, a Voice Quality Management System (VQMS) that provides sophisticated, centralized, end-to-end visibility into every call made by every customer. OrcaVision’s sophisticated, drill-down diagnostic tools enable the rapid detection and correction of service quality problems so customer satisfaction is maximized and expensive truck rolls are eliminated.

Bundle of User Features Delivers More
Aside from its state-of-the-art architecture, operators who deploy Whaleback’s solution will be able to offer SMBs an impressive bundle of 50 advanced user features. A unique selling feature is that the telephony service is the only IP PBX (News - Alert) with Key System Unit features such as shared and bridged line appearances, intercom with hands-free response and group paging. The bundle also includes Whaleback’s exclusive Road Warrior Functionality™ which connects multiple offices, mobile employees and telecommuters as if everyone is under one roof, and one-click Orca Dial™ which enables users to highlight a phone number in any type of electronic file (PDF, DOC, PST, HTML, etc.) and instantly call the number without keying it into the handset. The system also allows for individual and group multi-level auto attendants among many other critical features that have previously been overlooked.

Priced to Profit
Whaleback Systems’ proven business model allows cable operators to offer all of the features and functionality of CrystalBlue Voice Service at an attractive, all-inclusive price point that eliminates hidden charges and fluctuating monthly bills. Implementing the service requires no additional capital expenditures for soft switches or application servers.

“Business voice represents a revenue generator for cable operators while leveraging their existing residential infrastructure,” added Ken Stess, vice president of corporate and business development, “It’s really a high-value business application platform that will generate revenue opportunities well beyond long distance arbitrage.”

Cable-Tec Expo
Cable operators can meet with Whaleback Systems’ executives to discuss the new program in booth 406 at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando on June 20-22, 2007. In addition, Cable-Tec Expo attendees can experience all of the features and functionality of Whaleback Systems’ Business Voice Service in the Expo cyber café. Accredited members of the media can arrange private demonstrations and interviews with Whaleback Systems’ executives by contacting Melissa Hicks at 877.238.4045 ext. 101.
