Google Buys PeakStream(InvesTrend Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) June 6, 2007 (FinancialWire) Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) said that it will buy startup PeakStream for an undisclosed sum. The company sells tools for programming multiple chip cores and recently received $17 million in venture funding from several private equity groups. PeakStream creates the graphics processing units used in applications such as for video games and servers and promoted by chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD). The acquisition may indicate that Google plans to move away from the x86 Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) processors that it uses for its servers.
