POP MUSIC(Newsday (Melville, NY) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) May 27--CRITICS' PICKS Glenn Gamboa's Picks The Honda Civic Tour (June 5 at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh). This ain't a scene, it's a, oh, wait, it's a scene. Led by pop-punk hitmakers Fall Out Boy, this year's edition of the Honda Civic Tour brings together some of the best emo bands around -- including The Academy Is ..., having a breakthrough year thanks to its excellent "Santi" album, the ever-entertaining Cobra Starship, and +44, featuring Blink-182's Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus -- alongside rapper Paul Wall. And it's a pretty safe bet that the after-party will be at Pete Wentz's new Lower East Side bar Angels & Kings. Morrissey (June 30 at Madison Square Garden). With no new album to promote on this tour, Morrissey not only gets a chance to explore his entire catalog, but his work with The Smiths as well. So all you Smiths diehards who never thought you'd hear "How Soon Is Now," "The Queen Is Dead" or "The Boy With the Thorn in His Side" in concert again, this tour is your chance. And don't worry, newcomers, he's doing songs from "Ringleader of the Tormentors" as well. Live Earth (July 7 at Giants Stadium). The American portion of the "Concerts for a Climate in Crisis" will feature pop stars Kelly Clarkson and Akon, rock powerhouses Bon Jovi and Dave Matthews Band, and the reunions of The Police and, more or less, Smashing Pumpkins. There will be feeds from the other six concerts on six other continents, as well, including Madonna, Duran Duran and Red Hot Chili Peppers at London's Wembley Stadium and Crowded House and Jack Johnson at Sydney's Aussie Stadium. Proceeds from all the shows will benefit the Alliance for Climate Protection. Rock the Bells (July 28 and 29 at Randalls Island). One of the biggest hip-hop tours ever, Rock the Bells not only celebrates the reunion of Rage Against the Machine and the 20th anniversary of Public Enemy, but also performances from Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots and Mos Def. As if that wasn't enough great hip-hop for the weekend, the 25th anniversary of the hip-hop movie Wild Style takes place at Central Park SummerStage on July 29, featuring the Cold Crush Brothers and Grand Wizzard Theodore, the DJ who invented scratching. Vans Warped Tour (Aug. 4 at Nassau Coliseum parking lot). Though the biggest draws in the rest of the country will be alterna- heroes Hawthorne Heights and New Found Glory or up-and-comers Circa Survive and Boys Like Girls, the Long Island contingent on this year's Warped Tour will make this show different. Straylight Run will be celebrating its major label debut. Bayside will, no doubt, continue its string of powerful performances, along with Envy on the Coast. Rafer Guzman's Picks Rufus Wainwright. (June 5, 6, 8, 9 at Blender Theatre at Gramercy. ) Wainwright may be the hardest-working man in show biz: After last year's two-night stint re-creating Judy Garland's 1961 performance at Carnegie Hall, he's returning for this four-night run in support of his new album, "Release the Stars. " His opening acts will vary from date to date; they include fellow folk nobility such as Lucy Wainwright Roche and Teddy Thompson. Wilco. (June 25 at Hammerstein Ballroom and June 26 at Warsaw. ) The legendary alt-country band is back with a gorgeous new disc, "Sky Blue Sky," which typically defies easy classification. Expect some deft guitar interplay between Jeff Tweedy and the band's newer member, the prodigious Nels Cline. The Police. (Aug. 1 and 3 at Madison Square Garden and Aug. 5 at Giants Stadium. ) Decisions, decisions: Should you see this historic reunion concert at a massive venue, or a whoppingly humongous one? Either way, expect a band that's in fine form (judging from its recent Grammy appearance). Prepare for plenty of sloshed fans screaming, "Roxanne! " White Stripes. (July 24 at Madison Square Garden. ) Jack White had his fun with the boys in his band The Raconteurs, but he's back with his lady, drummer Meg White. It should be a treat to watch this strange and fascinating duo work its magic in the Garden. CALENDAR Click here to see all pop music events! Copyright (c) 2007, Newsday, Melville, N.Y.
