Intel to Help WiMAX Coverage in China(SinoCast China Business Daily News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) SHANGHAI, May 25, SinoCast -- Central China's Hubei Province has signed a cooperation memorandum with Intel Corp. and a local wireless service company Airway Communications for setting up a broadband wireless network industrial base in Wuhan, capital city of the province, according to the provincial government's Website. Intel will help set up the network base, and Airway Communications will deploy WiMax base stations using 802.16e standard in Wuhan as a center. Such wireless network is also planned to spread across a dozen of other provinces and cities, showed their memorandum. Insiders said that the network would be the first mobile WiMax network based on the 802.16e standard to be built in China, though China's telecom regulatory body has not yet expressed clear support on the development of WiMax network. Intel's participation will add a foreign competitor in Hubei's WiMax market, since the province has already entered into a cooperation agreement with South Korea's IT giant Samsung for wireless broadband development, in November 2006.
