Volvo Truck Quickens Expansion in China

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) SHANGHAI, Apr 16, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --Volvo Truck Corporation, a Swedish truck manufacturer, has started its six-month roadshow in 25 Chinese cities from Shanghai, in a bid to drive up its presence in the country's truck market.

A truck, installed with advanced 13L engine and Volvo I-shift gearbox, will be exhibited. The automaker launched two truck models with similar devices into the Chinese market in July 2006 and obtained 28 percent growth in sales last year.

In 2006, sales of trucks in China totaled 300,000. The sales of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd., FAW Group Corporation, and China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Corp. all exceeded 60,000 ones.

The Swedish automaker, which saw total sales of only over 6,000 trucks since 1970s, sold more than 1,000 ones last year. Compared with the company's global sales, the proportion is still small. It is because that prices of Volvo trucks are expensive, analyzed insiders.

In addition, the company will show its experience in logistics to enhance its competitiveness in China.
