BridgePort Networks, GoAhead Software and Solid Information Technology Demonstrate Highly Available, Open Standards-Based Fixed Mobile Convergence Solution

ORLANDO, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- BridgePort Networks, the leader in mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) convergence, demonstrates its highly available, secure, and scalable MobileSTICK(TM) fixed-mobile convergence solution that leverages open standards hardware and software to increase its flexibility and speed of development. This demonstration will show failover between servers under high call load on the BridgePort Networks' NomadicONE(TM) Network Convergence Gateway (NCG), The Nomadic ONE NCG uses open-standards based, proven high availability and management middleware from GoAhead Software ensuring 99.999 percent or greater system resource availability; full featured in-memory relational database from Solid for scalable, high performance data access; open standards-based platform for next generation networks provided by IBM BladeCenter(TM); and greater throughput capabilities with minimal packet loss and lower power consumption from AMD Opteron(TM) processors.

"As telecom equipment manufacturers are challenged to increase services in shorter time frames and with reduced budgets, they are looking for ways to ensure carrier-grade availability and robust platforms, so they can focus resources on differentiation," explains Dr. Asif Naseem, chief technology officer and chief operating officer for GoAhead Software. "By leveraging GoAhead Software, BridgePort can ensure carrier-grade availability while focusing resources higher up the stack."

"By embedding solidDB directly into their solution, BridgePort achieves exceptionally fast, always-on data access that is critical to the satisfaction of their customers." says Paola Lubet, vice president, marketing and business development for Solid.

The MobileSTICK solution transforms personal computers into voice, SMS and multimedia messaging (MMS) terminals for mobile operator services, leveraging standards-based VoIP technology. Bringing together the mobile number identity with the benefits of Internet VoIP and messaging services, MobileSTICK can use virtually any broadband-connected PC, while maintaining security and mobile operator control via the same SIM card-based authentication already trusted by GSM and UMTS operators.

"In order to deploy this feature-rich solution in a timely and cost-efficient manner, we adopted an open architecture at both the hardware and software layers," explains Steve Blumenthal, chief technology officer for BridgePort Networks. "By leveraging a combination of interoperable, carrier-grade elements, we have assembled a highly-available and scalable platform that can reliably support up to one million converged subscribers on a single IBM BladeCenter chassis."

Not only do telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) want the cost and schedule efficiencies a solution based on open standards offers, but they also want a platform that is application-ready.

"As IBM continues to be a leading provider of blade server solutions to the telecommunications industry, we are seeing increasing demand for an application-ready platform," explains Jim Pertzborn, vice president, IBM Telecommunications Industry. "IBM has joined forces with GoAhead Software to pre-integrate and pre-validate GoAhead's high availability and management middleware on IBM BladeCenter HT(TM), significantly shortening the time-to-revenue cycle by removing the burden of integration and validation necessary for applications such as the one showcased here."

LIVE DEMONSTRATION AT CTIA WIRELESS 2007

This live demonstration shows how calls are balanced among servers and remain up during a failover scenario. BridgePort Networks showcases its MobileSTICK solution, based on its NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway that features open standards-based elements: AMD Direct Connect Architecture, GoAhead SelfReliant, IBM BladeCenter HT, and solidDB from Solid in the AMD booth (#3031) at CTIA Wireless 2007, in Orlando, March 27-29.
