4 officials vying for Napolcom's no. 2 post

(Manila Standard Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Rank-and-file employees of the National Police Commission have formally submitted to Malacanang the names of four contenders for the post of vice chairman that will be vacated by the end of the month.

In a resolution, the 1,200-strong Napolcom Employees Association officially recommended directors Bernardo Calibo, Lourdes Aniceto, Yolanda Lira, and Alfegar Triambulo as the next commissioner and vice chairman and executive officer.

Association president Edilberto Pardinas said they came up with the shortlist of candidates after an extensive review of each of aspirant's credentials.

The new appointee will replace Commissioner Linda Malenab Hornilla who holds the position of officer-in-charge of the Napolcom after vice chairman and executive officer Imelda Crisol Roces passed away last year.

Hornilla's six-year tenure as Napolcom commissioner ends on March 29.

Napolcom, although under the nominal chairmanship of Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, is mainly being run by the vice chairman.

Napolcom exercises administrative and supervisory control over the National Police and has the power to investigate police anomalies and dismiss erring policemen.

"For the commission to move forward, it is imperative that a new commissioner who may be designated as the vice chairman and executive officer be appointed, perhaps the soonest possible time," the association's Resolution 2001-001 stated.

Pardinas said it is but "practical and fitting" that a new commissioner should come from within the Napolcom.

Calibo, who has been in the commission for at least 25 years, is currently the staff service chief of the Personnel and Administrative Service.

Aniceto, on the other hand, is the staff service chief of the Planning and Research Service and currently the acting deputy executive director IV of the commission.

Lira, also a Napolcom veteran of 25 years, is the regional director of Napolcom Region IV while Triambulo heads the Police Regional Appellate Board, First Division of Napolcom-NCR office. Ferdinand Fabella
