Tekelec Aids PTCL in MNP Deployment

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Tekelec (News - Alert), based in North Carolina USA, is a pioneer when it comes to global network applications. Its telecommunication solutions aid operators in developing network structures that generate high revenues while retaining potential for future growth and expansion.

Tekelec installed its first integrated number portability solution in 1997. Ever since, the company has assisted nearly 50 operators worldwide including those in the Asia-Pacific countries of Taiwan, Pakistan, and Australia with successful number portability (NP) deployments.

With flexibility in its design, Tekelec’s NP solutions can be easily accommodated by various telecommunication models such as the global system for mobile communications (GSM), code division multiple access (CDMA), the fixed networks, as well as the intra-carrier number retention.

Having had a successful global run, Tekelec is destined to benefit from increased business opportunities in the future.

Since many countries are authorizing NP deployments, it provides operators a chance to use either existing EAGLE deployments for incorporating signaling-NP solutions into their networks. In addition, carriers in the new structure can include various other network applications such as G-Flex HLR Manager and performance and revenue management.

Recently, to aid the Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL)
develop their signaling capabilities, Tekelec extended the services of its EAGLE 5 Integrated Signaling System (ISS) capabilities, triggerless ISUP-based number portability (TINP) solution, and INAP-based number portability (INP) solution.

This enables PTCL in the deployment of inter-carrier mobile number portability solutions in their network, and simultaneously keeps up with the regulatory requirements.

Tekelec’s technology also assists PTCL in facilitating a rollover to the NP solutions by the fixed-line subscribers..

Wolrad Claudy, the Managing director of Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia region for Tekelec, commented in a statement to the press, “We are delighted to announce this deployment with PTCL, which demonstrates our growing presence across the South Asian and Middle Eastern regions. We look forward to establishing a strong relationship with PTLC as it continues to build its subscriber base and fulfill its business objectives of providing outstanding customer service and meeting regulatory requirements.”

According to the mobile cellular policy of Pakistan’s government, its residents can avail the benefits of mobile number portability (MNP), through which the subscribers are permitted to change over to another mobile company without the need to change their existing mobile numbers.

With hopes to facilitate the changeover, a centralized MNP database is being prepared by the cellular telecommunication operators of Pakistan. All the mobile and fixed network operators in the country will retain a copy of this subscriber database for prospective use in the future.

Once MNP is thoroughly deployed in the country, fixed and mobile operators who require directing calls to a registered mobile subscriber will have the assistance of their respective MNP databases, which will avoid chaos and delays.

Tekelec’s EAGLE ISS will further help the operators in implementation of MNP by performing the signaling operations for accessing, maintaining, updating, and querying their MNP databases.
