Bluefire Announces Support for Palm Treo 750 Smartphone

BALTIMORE, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Bluefire, a leading developer of security solutions for smartphones and wireless devices, today announced full support of the Palm(R) Treo(TM) 750 smartphone.

The Treo 750 five-band world phone(1) running Windows Mobile 5.0 with Direct Push Technology combines the Palm experience of a multifunction mobile phone with email, messaging, web browsing, organization software and a robust application portfolio.(2) Its compact design features an internal antenna, soft-touch finish, and contoured edges to make it comfortable in the hand. The Treo 750 also has a full QWERTY keyboard for easy messaging, a 1.3- megapixel camera, a bright 240x240 touch screen and support for Bluetooth(R) stereo headsets. The built-in 60MB of user-available storage can be enhanced by using the miniSD slot to add memory cards of up to 2GB, which are great for storing data, photos, music and video.

"As smartphones, such as the Palm Treo 750, are becoming more indispensable to users, they are also becoming more vulnerable to potential threats," said Bluefire's CEO, Mark Komisky. "With the increasing prevalence of attachments and multi-media downloads, users want and need a comprehensive security solution for email and web access."

According to a recent survey conducted by Bluefire and online publication FierceWireless, 84% of respondents said they are concerned about accessing web-based email accounts from their smartphones and other wireless devices while 67% said that access to the web is a significant security concern. On a broader scale, the survey shows that users are gaining greater recognition that wireless security is necessary to protect confidential corporate, customer, and personal information that may reside on these devices.

Bluefire addresses this need for security by providing a complete wireless security solution for devices like the Treo 750, including firewall, VPN, authentication, encryption, intrusion prevention, logging, and central management.

"The Treo 750, along with other Palm smartphones, allows users to take the office with them and work on the go," said Mike Rank, director of developer relations, Palm, Inc. "Individuals can now be confident that while they are checking corporate email remotely or accessing the corporate networks, all data and data-in-transit remains secure."
