Zycko urge IT channel to cut carbon emissions - Distributor launches group-wide policy to reduce power consumption

9th February 2007 - Zycko, a value-added distributor of convergent storage and IP solutions, has expanded its environmental policy to include a global IT energy efficiency policy, designed to ensure significant reductions in its carbon footprint.

According to a recent industry survey, a single desktop PC left on for 24 hours per day and for 220 days per year will emit up to one tonne of CO2 in three years.

In addition, the survey also discovered that just a single PC left switched on overnight and over the weekend will rack up an annual electricity bill of £53.

David Galton-Fenzi, group sales director at Zycko, said that it implemented the policy in an effort to help the environment and to help partners reduce their operating costs.

We urge the channel to follow in our footsteps and cut its carbon emissions, he said. By following in Zyckos footsteps, resellers can benefit both environmentally and financially.

Zycko has seven global offices, including locations in Russia, Germany and the USA, and operates across three different continents. Zyckos environmental policy seeks to comply with all relevant legislation and regulations in order to minimise pollution

Zycko currently employ around 190 staff and consequently stands to save at least £10,070 per annum by ensuring its desktop computers are turned off overnight and at weekends.

Businesses in all sectors need to reassess their operating impact on the environment and by launching this policy we hope to further encourage the IT sector to reduce its carbon footprint, added Galton-Fenzi.

Zycko also recently launched Pro Asset Management, a service designed to enable its reseller partners to assist their customers in the environmental disposal of end-of-life IT hardware.

Pro Asset Management conforms to the recently implemented Waste Electrical and Electronic Management (WEEE) directives requirements and also ensures that any data storage devices disposed of are magnetically wiped of any sensitive business data.
