Bush seeks $313 million for FCC(UPI Entertainment News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) U.S. President Bush is asking Congress for $313 million for the Federal Communications Commission, with some going toward consumer outreach for digital TV. Line items in the 2008 budget request would cover include stepped-up enforcement against waste, fraud and abuse, a strategic effort to expand broadband service nationally and foster competition, promote media diversity, and beef up the public safety and homeland security departments at the FCC, Radio&Records.com said Monday. The money also would be allocated for modernizing the FCC so it can become more efficient and effective, the submitted budget document said. A portion of the budget request would be used to help to fund a proposed summer outreach program to educate the public about digital television. The television industry is scheduled to become fully digital by February 2009. Copyright 2007 United Press International |
