Blue-ray HD-DVD Player to Enter China Market

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) BEIJING, Jan 30, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --SinoCast ?C While China's native EVD alliance has just formed, Blue-ray and HD-DVD, which are based on Japanese technologies, speed up their steps into China to grasp the emerging high-definition market in China.



BestBuy, the biggest home appliances retailer in North America, will reportedly introduce Blue-ray players to China during the first half of 2007.

Zhang Baoquan, chairman of Antaeus Group and general-secretary of China's EVD industry alliance, told that Blue-ray HD-DVD players and EVD players would coexist in China for a long



Blue-ray players are sold at USD 500-600 in China and the related discs are sold at CNY 150-400, even though their prices have been reduced several times since 2006. The price of DVD players drops to USD 299-399 in three years and it will cost Blue-ray players at lest three years to press down their price at that level, told StanGlasgow, president of Sony recently.

No matter how Blue-ray players do to take a certain market share in China, the market will play the essential role in its ups and downs.
