[January 26, 2007] Alltel introduces EVDO to Gainesville Tweet (Tele.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) US network operator Alltel Wireless (NYSE:AT) (Alltel), has introduced EVDO technology in Gainesville and surrounding areas, in the US, through its Axcess Broadband service. Alltel said the service offers unlimited wireless access to the Internet, to customers with an EVDO capable handset, at speeds which compare to wired broadband connections such as DSL or cable modem. The operator claimed subscribers can use laptop computers, smartphones or other handsets to access e-mail, surf the Internet and download large files, at average speeds of 400-700kb/s, with maximum speeds of up to 2.4Mb/s. According to Alltel, Axcess Broadband offers a wireless broadband Internet service to keep travelling business professionals and casual users connected with fast, reliable data services. Alltel offers Axcess Broadband service for USD59.99 per month for unlimited use, with qualifying voice plans.
