Bush picks Iraq envoy as UN man


(The Statesman (India) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Press Trust of India NEW YORK, Jan. 5: US President George W Bush intends to appoint current US Ambassador to Iraq Mr Zalmay Khalilzad as the countrys ambassador to the United Nations to replace John Bolton who resigned following Democrats takeover of the Senate. The moving of Mr Khalilzad from Baghdad is part of a major revamping of civilian and military team in Iraq and efforts to show that changes are taking place as Mr Bush finalises the new Iraq policy, administration officials told the New York Times. They said Mr Bush has decided to name Lt-Gen. David H. Petraeus as the top American military commander in Iraq. Weapons chief dismissed US energy secretary Mr Samuel Bodman announced the dismissal of the head of the US nuclear weapons programme after a series of security breaches and management problems adds AFP from Washington. Ambassador Mr Linton Brooks, administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), will tender his resignation to President George W. Bush and leave his post later this month, Mr Bodman said in a statement.
