Asigra Delivers Remote Data Backup to Drilling Company Based Throughout Europe and Atlantic Ocean; SecurStore Signs Deal for Asigra's Backup with Jardboranir HF, Iceland Drilling Company Ltd.
TORONTO --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 12, 2006 -- Asigra(TM) today announced that SecurStore, a leading Icelandic storage services provider, is providing Jardboranir HF (Iceland Drilling Company Ltd), a global drilling company, with Asigra's agentless distributed backup and recovery software, Televaulting(TM). Iceland Drilling Company uses SecurStore IP Backup, SecurStore's managed backup and recovery service, which deploys Asigra's Televaulting software across its three main rigs located in the Azores and Iceland and also the headquarters in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Iceland Drilling Company's rigs and its headquarters in Reykjavik hold business-critical data, ranging from financial information and contracts, to emails and mission-critical databases. It was essential to Iceland Drilling Company that this business-critical data is backed up and has a quick recovery time to ensure business continuity. The real-time data from the rigs, along with reports and other traditional data, are crucial for continuous operation of the rigs and therefore it is absolutely necessary to have backups in case of a failure. This critical data was previously backed up via tape, but Iceland Drilling Company was finding it problematic to recover data from these rigs to the headquarters in Iceland. Transporting physical tapes over wide and remote geographical areas was not practical or reliable and backups were never completed even in a 24-hour timeframe. Iceland Drilling Company therefore turned to SecurStore specifically because it was able to securely back up and recover data in almost real-time from its geographically dispersed locations.

Iceland Drilling Company's operations consist of the allocation of natural resources, such as hot water, steam, cold freshwater and seawater, as well as drilling for valuable metals, gas and oil, and experimental drilling for building structure material. In addition to traditional office data, invaluable real-time data is continuously collected from all rig operations to a SQL Server database at each site.
At each of the three main rigs and at the headquarters, a single Asigra Televaulting DS-Client discovers all servers, desktops and laptops connected to the local network, and automates the backup of all local data assets. Before the backup data set is transmitted to SecurStore's data center, Asigra Televaulting software analyzes the data, finds new and changed file blocks, eliminates duplicate files and further compresses the residue bytes to ensure the backup set is as compact as possible. The software then encrypts the data before sending it over an IP WAN connection to a centralized Asigra Televaulting DS-System server, located in SecurStore's data center, which consolidates the backup data from all distributed sites. That DS-System server is then protected just like any other server within the data center as part of the organization's ongoing data protection policies. As an additional level of data protection, SecurStore has configured the DS-System server to replicate the vault to a second secure backup site.
Asigra Televaulting for Service Providers supports a broad range of platforms, including Windows, Linux, Unix, Novell, AS/400 and Macintosh, and protects Oracle, SQL Server, VMWare and Exchange Server data. Back-end DS-System software runs on Solaris, Linux, Macintosh and Windows.
