China Jumps to World's 3rd Largest Shipbuilder


(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, Jan 09, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --The output of China'sshipbuilding industry grew 36 percent to 12 million deadweight tons in 2005 for the first time, announced the Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense.



The proportion of the production of China's shipbuilding industry rose to a record 18 percent of the international market. China therefore became the world's third largest shipbuilder.

The country received new shipbuilding orders of 15 million deadweight tons. The gross profits of China's shipbuilding industry surpassed CNY 3 billion last year. China's shipbuilding industry held orders of 37.6 million deadweighttons by the end of last December, up nine percent year on year. The sales revenue achieved by the shipbuilding companies with annual sales of over CNY 5 million grew 18 percent year on year to CNY 100 billion last year, according to the commission.
