Hauppauge Unveils Wireless MediaMVP for Home Networks

LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 5, 2006 -- MediaMVP Wireless Set-Top Receiver, Priced at $149.00, Allows Users to View And/Or Listen to PC-Based Music, Video, and Pictures From Anywhere in the House

Hauppauge Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAUP), a leading developer and manufacturer of digital video, TV, and data broadcast receiver products for personal computers, announced today at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES(R)), the debut of its wireless MediaMVP.

The latest version of the MediaMVP is a wireless set-top decoder device for home 802.11G networks that will enable TV sets to access PC-based Music, Video and Pictures ("MVP") via wireless networks for a retail price of 149.00. The wireless MediaMVP uses the 802.11G wireless standard, common in most consumer wireless access points, in order to best support MPEG and DivX video playback.

"Our MediaMVP will turn any TV set or home entertainment system into a playback device for PC based music, digital pictures and videos," stated Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge's Chief Executive Officer. "Now, with the new MediaMVP's wireless connectivity, PC users can access and enjoy MPEG and DivX videos, MP3 music, family photos or other multimedia files on their TV set, from any room in the house. And by using common 802.11G wireless networks, we can provide full speed wireless playback of DVD quality videos from your PC to your TV set."

Using MediaMVP, for example, individuals can play a video on their bedroom TV that's stored on a PC in the basement, or show JPEG photos of a recent vacation--accompanied by MP3 music--on the family room big screen TV with the MP3 music played through their living room audio system.

MediaMVP is suitable for home theater systems as well as plasma screens, TV monitors, and conventional TV sets. It supports MPEG-1/MPEG-2 videos, DivX videos, JPEG and GIF digital pictures, and MP3 music files. Other audio and video formats, including Windows Media Center Edition recordings, will be supported in future releases of MediaMVP software.

Onscreen Menu

Navigating multimedia files from the TV is easy using MediaMVP's remote control and TV onscreen menu.

Pictures are a snap to select using the thumbnails displayed in MediaMVP's photo directories. Simply click on the "Play" or "OK" buttons on the remote control, and the selected photo will appear on the TV screen. With MediaMVP's slideshow function, it's easy to view holiday digital pictures and also playback digital music through your TV set.

Videos are played in the same way, with stop, pause, and fast forward/reverse controls available on the remote.

Continuous pictures and music shows can be set up for family parties on the PC, and then played through the TV or home entertainment system via the home network. MediaMVP will play M3U, B4S, PLS and ASX music playlists from Music Match, Windows Media Player and Winamp.

Powerful Expansion Capabilities

In addition to its other features, MediaMVP is designed to work with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR, where the WinTV can be used to record videos onto the PC's hard disk and then played back through the MediaMVP. By installing a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR in their PC, users can create a complete home TV and digital media distribution system. TV shows, sporting events, movies and more can be recorded or time shifted; viewers can even see their own custom instant replays without missing any of the remaining program.

Wireless MediaMVP is based on an IBM PowerPC, and runs on the Linux open-source operating system, enabling it to support numerous upgrades. Current A/V connection options include S-video, composite video and RGB, plus stereo audio output and S/PDIF audio out. The MediaMVP is compatible with any PC running Windows XP.

Hauppauge's wireless MediaMVP set-top decoder device will be priced at $149.00, and will be available for purchase starting this month. For more information about the MediaMVP, or any of Hauppauge's other digital video TV and data broadcast receiver products, visit www.hauppauge.com.
