S. Korea aiming to become a leading e-learning country by 2010

(Asia In Focus Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)SEOUL, Jan 2 Asia in Focus - South Korea is aiming to become one of the leading e-learning countries in the world by 2010, the government said Monday. The effort, based on the country's extensive high-speed Internet infrastructure, is to expand the everyday use of on-line learning that has great growth potential, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said.



* "E-learning opens up a new paradigm and permits education and training that can overcome time and space limitations which exist in traditional programs at schools and academies," a government official said.

* He said the focus of development will be on strengthening the country's competitiveness in this field, expanding everyday usage and creating new demand.
