NOKIA GETS $400-MILLION CONTRACT (from Bharti Airtel)

(India Business Insight Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Nokia has received a $400-million 3-year contract from Bharti Airtel Ltd.

Under the contract Nokia will expand Bharti's managed GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks in 8 Airtel circles and deploy a wireless application protocol (WAP) solution across all its networks in India.

The contract will cover all towns and cities in 8 telecommunication circles of Mumbai, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Bihar (including Jharkhand), Orissa, Kolkata, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh (including Chhattisgarh).

Nokia will carry out the network monitoring operations from its Global Network Services Centre in Chennai.
