BakBone Partners Predict Increased Adoption of Replication and Disaster Recovery Solutions

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- BakBone Software(R) (Pink Sheets:BKBO), a global provider of heterogeneous integrated data protection solutions, and its extensive network of North American channel partners, predicts increased adoption of replication and disaster recovery solutions according to a recent BakBone channel partner survey.

The survey finds that replication and disaster recovery has moved to the top of the priority list for customers, as more companies place emphasis on maintaining continuous business operations. Over 43 percent report that federal, state or industry regulations directly affect business continuity initiatives, with more than 75% of respondents stating that customers have allocated budget for replication or disaster recovery technology deployments in the next 12 months. According to the survey, replication will be deployed more than any other technology (40%) while 80% of respondents reveal that the main concern for customers is maintaining high availability of data and applications and reducing the time needed to recover in the event of a disaster.

"As the demand for replication and disaster recovery technology increases, our channel has embraced the NetVault data protection product line as an easy to sell, easy to deploy solution," said Ken Horner, senior vice president, BakBone's corporate strategy and development. "The storage replication market continues to show strong growth and we anticipate that sales engagements with partners will reflect this growth opportunity."

Designed to provide the lowest total cost of ownership, as well as heterogeneous support for virtually every computing platform and application from a single solution, the company's suite of backup, replication and disaster recovery technologies is sold exclusively through channel partners.

"Business continuity planning has become a major resource demand in IT over the past few years, made more urgent by recent natural disasters. With the increasing cost of downtime, customers are realizing that business continuity planning is more than an IT disaster recovery plan and are requesting technology to help maintain the availability of key applications and business functions," said Ashby Lincoln, president of VeriStor Systems, a BakBone value added reseller. "BakBone's suite of data protection solutions gives us a range of technologies that are tightly integrated and designed for virtually any environment, making it easier and more cost-effective for customers to maintain continuous business operations."

Additional survey findings indicate that business continuity planning, while viewed as vital to ensuring the continued operation of systems that support critical business processes, is seen by the majority of respondents as a complex, costly and decentralized process. Eighty-two percent of the respondents resoundingly indicated their customers would be interested in simplifying and centralizing the management of different data protection solutions--backup and recovery, replication, vaulting and snapshot--to ensure they work together seamlessly and across different computing platforms, including Windows, Linux, and UNIX.

According to research from leading IT market research and advisory firm IDC (Report # 203232), as of July 19, 2006, the worldwide storage replication software market achieved total revenue of $2.0 billion in 2005, an 18.3% increase over 2004. "IDC believes the storage replication market will continue to exhibit steady growth, driven by customer requirements for higher levels of data availability. This is being driven by concerns over disaster recovery and the need to adhere to compliance regulations. Improvements in IT spending should continue the momentum in the storage replication market."
