Enterprise Systems Releases 2006 IT Salary Survey; An Improving Economy and More Robust IT Budgets Are Helping Loosen the Budget Purse Strings for Key IT Line Staff Positions but Not for Key Management Positions Surveyed

CHATSWORTH, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 14, 2006 -- Enterprise Systems (ES), a leading provider of real-world business and technology information for managers of large, high-volume computer systems and infrastructures, has released the findings of an extensive IT salary survey for 2006.

Key findings include:

-- Application programmers saw the largest jump in salaries across the IT staff positions for the third year in a row, and now average $64,100 -- a rise of 8.7 percent over last year's survey.

-- Systems administrators saw the most modest gains (two percent), and salaries for these professional have not increased at all since the first time this category was included in 2002.

-- Storage administrators, new to the study in 2006, earn an average of $65,300 with premiums of 12 percent being paid to those storage administrators working in the business-to-consumer environment.

-- System administrators continue to see huge increases in their average annual bonuses increasing more 15% in 2006 to $3,000.

-- Managers overseeing business-to-business projects receive the highest compensation.

-- As we found in previous surveys, the Northeast and West Coast dominate the competition to pay the high IT salaries. However, overall salaries in the Los Angeles area are higher than in the New York region.

-- While salaries and opportunities may be improving, more IT professionals are dissatisfied with their earnings, and worry about outsourcing is increasing.

This salary survey of 852 enterprise-IT sites tracked salary figures for IT managers and professionals across a broad spectrum of organizations. The survey covers eight IT line positions and eight IT management positions.

This report also examines: salary by region, industry, and company size; job satisfaction and security; and average number of hours worked per week.

The survey will be released in sections over the next four Tuesdays at http://www.esj.com. Part 1 of the survey is available now at http://esj.com/Enterprise/article.aspx?EditorialsID=2052. To get the full ES 2006 IT Salary Survey Report now, e-mail [email protected].
