Denise Vickers is Named News Director of WHNT-TV


HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 3, 2006 -- WHNT-TV, The New York Times Company Broadcast Media Group's Huntsville, Ala., station, today announced the appointment of Denise Vickers as news director, effective August 28. Ms. Vickers joins WHNT from WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Ala., where she has been the news director since January 2004.



"Denise is a proven, dynamic leader with a sincere interest in serving the community. She has the experience, skills and talent to lead the station's news department with distinction into the future," said Craig Marrs, president and general manager, WHNT. Ms. Vickers served as news director for WCBD-TV in Charleston, S.C., and KIVI-TV in Boise, Idaho before joining WSFA. She also served as executive producer for WSPA-TV in Spartanburg, S.C., and held producer roles in Washington, D.C.; Columbia, S.C.; and Lynchburg, Va.


At WSPA, Ms. Vickers contributed to the effort that won a Southern Regional Emmy for Best Newscast. While news director at WCBD in 1998, the station received four Emmy Award nominations, including Best Newscast, and during her time as news director at KIVI, the station won ISBA Awards for Best Newscast in 2000 and 2001.

Ms. Vickers earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1990. She is currently enrolled in the Carole Kneeland Project, a distinguished yearlong mid-career development curriculum for experienced news directors.
