(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Jul. 12--BATELCO JORDAN, WIFI HOTSPOTS: Batelco Jordan has installed WiFi hotspots in universities, cafes and restaurants around the country. They are in place in 11 locations including Irbid University, Amman Arab University, Isra University, UN University and Depaul University. Swedish company Aptilo Networks will put in place the necessary infrastructure.

HSDPA COVERS BAHRAIN: MTC-Vodafone says it has the whole of Bahrain covered with its High Speed Downlink Packet Access service (3.5G). At rates of up to 1.8 M bits per second, the service increases data speeds by up to five times that of existing 3G networks, and 15 times that of GPRS networks.

ARGO SAILS AGAINST IPOD: Gadget blog Engadget claims it has the first picture of Microsoft's rumoured mp3 player, which is codenamed Argo according to the Seattle times. The Argo, part of the Xbox division, is believed to be WiFi enabled. CNET also reports that Microsoft has several other devices under development, including a media player and online media service.


BLU-RAY HD DVD MULTIFORMAT: Ricoh has developed an optical laser system able to read both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats, according to PC Pro. It can also read existing CDs and DVDs. The components could be used for writing and re-writing, but due to technical considerations Ricoh will initially offer the device for players only.

LG DMB MP3 PLAYER: LG Electronics has introduced an mp3 player with digital mobile broadcasting. The FM35 has 2GB of internal memory, with a 2.4 inch LCD display and a 16:9 aspect radio. It can store images and text files, and comes with with USB 2.0.
