Data Security is Displacing Malware as #1 Concern Worldwide: Apani Releases First Enterprise Security Survey ResultsBREA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- June 28, 2006 -- Data Security was the top concern of enterprise IT professionals according to the results of a recently released survey sponsored by Apani Networks, a provider of software that secures inside the network perimeter. The results were compiled by a third party, Infosurv Market Research, for the first of an ongoing series of surveys aimed at investigating IT security issues and concerns within enterprises worldwide. This week, the company released the results of its first confidential online survey of enterprise security professionals. Results were based on 591 respondents worldwide and covered questions in the areas of data protection, security policies, network segmentation, de-perimeterization, IT security implementation and attack profiles. The key findings showed that Data Security is the #1 concern of IT professionals and securing the enterprise is getting harder. In addition, the survey also identified the following: -- Concern of Data Theft is a primary driver worldwide; -- Awareness of Insider threat is also climbing; -- De-perimeterization is now accepted as a fact by the majority of IT professionals; -- And, achieving compliance is continuing to be a driver, and yet 43 percent of IT professionals didn't know what they needed to comply with. The theft of data emerged as a clear primary focus for all respondents, with more than 70 percent of respondents indicating they were "somewhat" to "very" concerned about potential loss of data with 38 percent of respondents indicating that they experienced an insider attack during the past 12 months. On the issue of network de-perimeterization, 75 percent of respondents agree that the perimeter is getting more porous and 80 percent agree that securing the enterprise is more difficult than before.
