Six Fairfax County companies named to annual Black Enterprise 100 list; Only six states have more ranked companies than Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. --(Business Wire)-- May 24, 2006 -- Six Fairfax County-based companies, including five federal contractors in information technology fields, are among the 100 largest African American-owned service/industrial firms in the country, according to Black Enterprise magazine. The magazine ranks the companies by revenue and features the 2006 list in its June edition. Six Fairfax County companies made the list last year.



Two other companies from Virginia are on the BE 100 service/industrial list. The only locality with more companies on the list than Fairfax County is Detroit (eight). Only six states have more companies on the list than Fairfax County: Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Illinois and Maryland.

The six Fairfax County companies on the 2006 BE 100:

The most recent U.S. Census data showed a 52.6 percent increase in the number of African American-owned firms in Fairfax County between 1997 and 2002. The 5,091 African American-owned firms located in Fairfax County employ 8,841 people, have more than $1 billion in sales and receipts and payrolls totaling more than $365 million.

"It is almost an unbelievable achievement to have 6 percent of the largest African American-owned companies in the nation based here in Fairfax County, and it says that is the best place in America for all companies to locate and grow," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). "Fairfax County is extremely proud to be home to these very successful businesses."
