BayPackets to Showcase and Seed IMS Platforms and Applications for Carriers in Intel(R) MCP Solution Labs; Application Server to Demo Multimedia Applications Running on an IMS Framework

FREMONT, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- May 23, 2006 -- BayPackets, Inc., a leader in providing IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) compliant multi-network voice and data solutions for wireless, wireline and cable operators, today announced its Agility SIP Application Server is fully integrated with an ATCA Telco Server Proof of Concept based on Intel(R) Architecture and running in Intel(R) Modular Communications Platforms (MCP) Solution Labs. The solution labs, currently in China, New Jersey and Belgium, are demonstration facilities used to show service providers real applications running on integrated IMS network elements based on Intel(R) standards-based building blocks.

These solutions comply with AdvancedTCA, a standards-based modular architecture that allows the integration of vendor platform and component solutions across a choice of standard backplanes. As a result, carriers are able to add new services as modular building blocks, creating IMS service flexibility for faster and more cost-effective service deployment.

"Carriers are looking for service agility in IMS deployments," said Sanjeev Chawla, EVP of Engineering and CTO at BayPackets. "They want to deploy a standards-based services-driven network to deliver value-added services at a low cost. By integrating BayPackets' service layer with applications from the Intel ecosystem, carriers get integrated, validated platform solutions that will help them get to market quickly with tested services."

BayPackets' SIP application server will be used to test and demonstrate a range of applications within the Intel(R) MCP Solution Labs. BayPackets will showcase its own multimedia applications -- including Multimedia Ringback Tone, Videomail and Personal Communication Manager, as well as any number of third party applications. The result will be a comprehensive IMS proof of concept based on the power and flexibility of MCP and the Intel(R) ecosystem that helps carriers achieve a faster time to revenue for new, innovative services.

"BayPackets' service layer solution is a critical component of Intel's vision for a modular communications network, enabling us to showcase cutting-edge applications running in an IMS environment," said Shantanu Gupta, MCP Solutions Program director, Intel. "Service providers know that these applications have been validated on standards-based platforms that will help them accelerate deployment of IMS systems. The resulting proof-of-concept will enable carriers to quickly and cost-effectively deploy revenue-generating rich, IP-based multimedia services."

An IMS Telco Server Proof of Concept based on Intel(R) Architecture based building blocks is available for use as a seed platform for Telecom Equipment. Manufacturers (TEMs), service providers, and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to help accelerate time-to-market by enabling rapid application porting and development as well as interoperability and functional testing. The Proof of Concept design, specifications, and configurations are available today to facilitate third party platform integrators in bringing their own versions to market in a timely fashion.
