Scripps Networks Continues to Build Broadband Success Launching New DIY Woodworking Channel

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --(Business Wire)-- May 9, 2006 -- Scripps Networks continues to carve out a leadership position in lifestyle broadband on the Web with its newest broadband channel - DIY Woodworking - now available through the Web site DIYnetwork.com (www.DIYnetwork.com).

DIY Woodworking features complete episodes of programs which have previously appeared on DIY Network. Each week two new programs will premiere and stay accessible on the channel for two weeks total. At any time there will be a total of four programs available on the channel with two geared to the more advanced woodworker and two that can be enjoyed by all woodworkers, even by enthusiasts with just the basic skills. Home Depot has signed on as a sponsor of the channel.

"We don't feel that there is just one model for success in broadband. Channels can be different based on the topic and the audience, so we are trying something new with DIY Woodworking," said Ron Feinbaum, senior vice president and general manager of Scripps Networks Interactive. "By putting up fresh video fare every week, we give users a reason for return visits; and by retiring video after two weeks, we also leave the door open to the possibility of subscription or download-to-own of these videos in the future. While a visitor will not be able to save the video, they will be able to save the text on the project if they aren't able to utilize it before the two week window expires. There is also a robust woodworking section on DIYnetwork.com that we hope they will explore and enjoy."

"We know the woodworking affinity group is large and is passionate, but we also know that even with DIY Network's distribution rapidly growing - currently more than 36.5 million households - not everyone who would like to connect with our content has the opportunity to do so," said Kathleen Finch, senior vice president and general manager of DIY Network. "The DIY Woodworking channel will be an opportunity for us to introduce do-it-yourselfers, particularly woodworkers, to what our on-air channel has to offer as well as to the depth of information, ideas, inspiration and projects on our Web site (www.DIYnetwork.com)."

Adds Jim Sexton, senior vice president of Scripps Networks Interactive overseeing both DIYnetwork.com and DIY Woodworking, "Launching DIY Woodworking as a smaller-scaled, narrowly focused broadband channel has allowed us to significantly collapse our time to market and also gives us the opportunity to be more flexible and test user response. Right now we have robust woodworking content on DIYnetwork.com which a user desiring more can drill down into; that allows us to keep this channel focused solely on video and accompanying text instructions. Our goal is to provide the consumer the information they want, in the format they desire and give them the ability to access it quickly and easily; we think we have done that with DIY Woodworking."

Scripps Networks Interactive
