the Razz: GOOD EVANS!
(Daily Record Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)COMEBACK kid Chris Evans was named Music Radio Personality of the Year last night.
Evans, 40, whose career looked washed up after he was sacked by Virgin Radio in 2001, triumphed at the industry's equivalent of the Oscars.
He only returned to the airwaves last year on Radio 2 and recently took over Johnnie Walker's Drivetime slot amid furious protests from listeners.
But last night, he was obviously delighted with his revived career as he was presented with his prize by singer Andrea Corr at the Sony Radio Academy Awards in London.
Andrea said Evans had won because he was "on absolutely top form, sharp, natural, articulate and engaging".
The DJ, a multi-millionaire through his former media empire, thanked the BBC for giving him "a second chance" and added: "It's great to be back."
Evans was also nominated for the entertainment award but was beaten by Radio 1 breakfast show host Chris Moyles.
As Moyles collected his award, it emerged he has signed up to compete on Celebrity X Factor.
He showed the attitude which could mean a hard time for the judges by saying of his prize: "It has been a long time coming.
"I never have to come to one of these Godforsaken Sony nights ever again."
Radio 2 veteran Terry Wogan, the UK's most popular DJ with eight million listeners, got a Gold Award for outstanding achievement at the ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
Other awards included:
Station of the Year - Radio 1.
Specialist Music Programme and Music Broadcaster of the Year - Zane Lowe of Radio 1.
Speech Broadcaster of the Year - EddieMair of Radio Four.
News and Current Affairs Programme - Radio Four's 6pm news.
Sports Programme - Fighting Talk - BBC Radio Five Live
